From 1850s until the 1920s, McNab's Island hosted some of the most spectacular Carnival attractions in North American history. By the late 1950, Nova Scotia's Bill Lynch ran the world's second largest travelling carnival company, a company he originally formed on McNab's Island.

In Essence's contribution to Nocturne, art at night, Local traffic explores the hidden nightlife of In Essence's legion of innovative dancers. The audience will be
captivated with gravity-defying feats on the Dance Floor, Poles, and Monkey Bars. At sundown the city turns from work to play. Street signs and scaffolding transform into the tools of Body Benders, Pole Dancers, Breakdancers, Belly Dancers, Hula Hoopers, and art forms that have yet to be defined. After the show share in the movement in the playground with alive DJ.
